We are seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer (Contractor) with deep expertise in F5 Distributed Cloud Web Application Firewall (WAF), Palo Alto Networks firewalls, and Python-based automation. This contractor will support the Cybersecurity Engineering team in implementing and maintaining next-generation security controls across cloud and on-premise environments. The focus is on securing web applications, automating security workflows, and enforcing network segmentation.

**The role is hybrid Tuesdays and Wednesdays in office till Sept 1. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays after Sept 1st.

**Prefer candidates local to Columbus, Ohio.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity or network security engineering roles
• Hands-on experience with F5 Distributed Cloud WAF, including configuration of WAF policies, bot defense, and API protection
• Expertise with Palo Alto Networks firewalls, including Panorama management, security policy tuning, and troubleshooting
• Proficient in Python scripting, with use cases in firewall automation, log parsing, or REST API integrations
• Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S), SSL decryption, and traffic inspection
• Experience with log aggregation and SIEM integration (e.g., Splunk, Cortex Data Lake)
• Strong communication and documentation skills

Key Responsibilities

This contractor role directly supports enterprise cybersecurity objectives by delivering scalable automation, robust perimeter defense, and secure cloud application protection through modern firewall and WAF technologies.

• Design, configure, and manage F5 Distributed Cloud WAF for enterprise and customer-facing web applications
• Administer Palo Alto Networks firewalls, including security policy updates, rulebase audits, and Panorama configurations
• Develop and maintain Python scripts to automate firewall operations, configuration checks, and reporting
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to secure network boundaries, cloud applications, and critical data flows
• Assist in incident response by analyzing WAF and firewall telemetry, implementing containment and prevention controls
• Participate in security architecture reviews and contribute to solution designs that align with zero-trust principles
• Create and maintain documentation for firewall standards, WAF policies, and automation toolsets

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud-native platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and securing workloads in public cloud
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, Ansible, or similar
• Knowledge of DevSecOps principles and CI/CD security integration
• Security certifications such as PCNSE, F5 CA, GSEC, or equivalent
