Job Description
Plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal parts, equipment, and products.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Applies fundamental principles and concepts. Performs the more routine aspects and progresses to more varied and complex activities with development of additional knowledge and experience in the subject matter. Participates in subject matter training as required to gain complex skills.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.
- Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patterns of product or parts, or uses templates.
- Sets up and operates fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials.
- Shapes metal material over anvil, block, or other form.
- Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smooths surfaces.
- Welds, solders, bolts, rivets, screws, clips, caulks, or bonds component parts to assemble products.
- Installs assemblies in supportive framework according to blueprints.
- Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications. Repairs and maintains sheet metal products.
Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Trade School Mechanical or Airframe (A&P) preferred.
+ 2 years’ experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
PC knowledge, Microsoft word, excel, and data entry. MRP, Quality Management system familiarity desired. Experienced (aviation related preferred) in a shop environment using hand tools, wood and metal working equipment proficiently skilled in assembly or production enough to provide aptitude to related practices. Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and fax machines.
