Job Description

Our client in Ashburn, VA has a direct hire need for a Manager, Data Center Infrastructure Facilities Technology. Facility Infrastructure Technology (FIT) is responsible for the design of Data Center and Operating Sites (OpSite) critical environments worldwide in support of the company’s strategic and resilient backbone. For this position we are looking for a strong forward-thinking, experienced senior level manager with great leadership skills.

About the Role:

  • The person should thrive when working in a fast-paced, technical environment, where adaptability and flexibility is key to success.
  • This person will be managing the entire DC portfolio, every device coming in and out from each Technology team including areas such as Cyber, Compute, Storage, Network, and Data Protection has to pass through this individual and their team. This will also include any new DC’s through M&A activities.
  • In addition you’ll be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all technical infrastructure being implemented at our OpSites. This includes providing guidance on standards, materials, and installation methodologies as it relates to items such as cabinet/rack models, electrical & cooling requirements, cable type, UPS/PDU selections, and WAP unit installations.
  • The annual project reach across all DC’s and projects is >$10m and each project carries key client services and capabilities; this persons ability to manage the portfolio as well as forecast for LRP purposes is key. 
  • To be successful this person is expected to have strong planning and project management experience and will be executing multiple, complex installation projects within all the critical environments while still maintaining capacity planning, retrofits, and DC retirements.
  • This person must have stellar people leadership and development experience.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Request and monitor all activities related to implementation of all DC facility plans.
  • Coordinate with various departments to review and evaluate all systems and perform integration of systems into critical environments (DC & OpSite).
  • Ensure adherence to all established standards and management practices.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and document change control requirements related to activities. This includes reviewing and commenting on other team changes that take place within the DC.
  • Develop, maintain and evolve all critical environment standards including but not limited to equipment, processes, and procedures.
  • Development and ownership of automated tools to assist DCO & FIT teams with enhanced visibility and manageability.
  • Ensure client satisfaction and provide optimal level of customer service by the delivery of expected project updates and performance requirements.
  • Collaborating globally to develop and implement process improvements in critical environments.
  • Act as leader and driver for the vision and implementation of improvements.
  • Direct remote hands and partner teams globally to affect the timely and correct installation of server hardware, network devices, and cross-connects to exchanges and counter-parties.
  • Responsible for management and delivery of capacity for all the DC sites and for ensuring operational delivery through partnership with both remote and local peer organizations to support ongoing business growth.
  • Developing and maintaining DC power, space, and environmental monitoring, metrics, and dashboards.

 

Experience Required:

  • 5-7 years’ experience
  • 5+ years of team and people management experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in the Data Center design, operations, and hardware lifecycle management.
  • Excellent vendor management and engagement expertise.
  • 3+ years data center management, monitoring, metrics, and dashboards experience using SNMP and DCIM – Nlyte or Sunbird.
  • Advanced knowledge in IT infrastructure operations, configurations, tools, and service processes used within DC operations.
  • Advanced experience in Configuration Management over IT assets and components by maintaining information about the configuration items, including hardware documentation and data center facilities.
  • Experience of managing cross-functional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners as part of daily responsibility.  
  • Maintain Documentation & Flow Process.
  • Experience in a diverse DC environments (> 10 sites).
  • Possess a high degree of professionalism, customer service, and dependable.
  • Ability to apply a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of technical concepts, practices, and procedures. 
  • Solid written and verbal communication.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Must present exceptional leadership, problem solving, decision making, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a remote capacity.
  • Ability to work in a team environment

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience, with four to seven year’s previous telecommunication experience preferred
  • Licenses/Certification Preferred: BICSI RCDD, Commscope, ICOR CEM
  • Preferred: Data Center and/or Critical Environments design and build. MEP standards, capacity planning, global team leadership and project management, large organizations with multiple DC’s and hundreds of cabinets and critical environments.
