Job Description

OUR GOAL:
Treat our consultants and clients the way we would like others to treat us!

Interested in joining our team? Check out the opportunity below and apply today!

Our client wants to create (for the 1st time) a product facing manager/team and is seeking two Platform Managers to hire and start off as a contract and possibly contract to hire after a year. No travel required. These roles will drive product-like practices within foundational tech teams.

A perfect candidate would be someone who is a Tech Product Manager with experience in the Azure platform. Retail experience would be great to have.

About the role:

  • A new VP is driving a transformation to make the tech domain more product-centric by organizing infrastructure operations and platforms as products.
  • The team has been tasked with building a new “Platform Manager” capability but faces significant constraints. The primary pain point is the inability to hire official Product Managers due to internal politics, title restrictions, and potential salary band conflicts with the existing product organization.
  • They must use TPM (Technical Program Manager) titles like “Platform Manager” and plan to hire two contractors to maintain flexibility. The goal is to build out this function, prove its value within a year, and then potentially transition it into a formal product team.

Background

  • The foundational tech domain—including infrastructure, operations, and platforms—recently reorganized to become more product-centric under a new VP. They’ve defined 23 products aligned to eight towers.
  • A proposal for the main product organization to support this effort was met with resistance, leaving the TPM team to build this new capability.

Expectations

  • Kickstart the new product-centric function within the foundational tech domain.
  • The ideal candidate is a technical product manager with experience managing infrastructure platforms (e.g., Azure) or someone with a strong background in that space.
  • Success will be measured by demonstrating “really good value” within a year, which would justify making the team a formal, permanent part of the product organization.
  • The new hires will own specific areas. One contractor will support the “Store and DC” tower, including store-facing technology like servers, cloud services, and devices.
  • The other contractor will likely support a combination of infrastructure ops, reliability, and test engineering towers.
  • Responsibilities include core product management activities: building and maintaining product roadmaps, aligning work to OKRs, stakeholder management, intake management, capacity planning, and progress tracking.
  • They will partner closely with engineering managers and leads, with shared accountability initially.
