Columbus, Ohio client has a contract-to-hire opportunity for a Data Engineer – Accountable for leading the development and upkeep of robust data management platforms, ensuring their efficient design, data accuracy, and secure accessibility. Responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate models while guaranteeing consistent naming conventions and calculations across all data repositories in alignment with the organization’s Business Glossary. Facilitates cohesive understanding of terminologies and requirements, ensuring seamless alignment between source systems and data platforms.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of data management platforms, including file structure, dimensional design of tables, and loading of data from source systems, both internally and externally
  • Ensures consistency in naming and calculations across all data warehouses in alignment with the organization’s Business Glossary
  • Implements and maintains security measures to protect organizational data, in alignment with operations and data governance teams, including encryption, access control, secure data transfer, auditing, and monitoring
  • Coordinates with data owners, data stewards, data reviewers, and other stakeholders to ensure consistent understanding of terms. Reconciles differences in terminology between sources systems and data repositories
  • Leads the ability to design management platforms to support the needs of consuming applications such as Power BI, Excel, AzureML, Alteryx, and even custom application code
  • Ensures proper security of data at rest, during movement, and least privileges for user consumption.
  • Maintains enough working knowledge of security protocols to converse with architecture, engineering, development, and outside auditing partners
  • Ensures that all sourcing is coming from an abstraction layer so the source system can be modified with minimal coordination with the warehouse team
  • Maintains a system of data requests and works with IT leadership for prioritization
  • Maintains data management platform standards and guardrails. Escalates variances from standards, and misusage of systems, to IT leadership
  • Completes peer code reviews
  • Responsible for self-managed upskilling in advanced technologies and deep business knowledge
  • Mentors new team members working on data system or reporting development and citizen developers across the company
  • Maintains a clear understanding of client’s goals and practices proper policies and procedures

 
Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience in data engineer, data scientist, or related role
  • Experience with program languages related to data engineering such as Python, R, Azure Data Factory, Data Bricks, C#, SQL, Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, and Power BI
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer related field or equivalent experience
  • The ability to read and write small letters and numbers; the ability to make arithmetic calculations; and the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • The successful completion of a ninety (90) day orientation period
  • The execution of an Employment Agreement
